Phu Quoc International Airport

Just 4 km from Mercury Phu Quoc Resort & Villas, Phu Quoc International Airport covers more than 1,050 hectares and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to welcome over 20 million passengers annually.

Introduction to Phu Quoc International Airport

Located in Duong To commune, Phu Quoc Special Zone, Kien Giang Province, the airport is only 9 km from Duong Dong town – an ideal distance for travelers to quickly immerse themselves in the turquoise sea or check into world-class resorts on the island.

Inaugurated in 2012 with an investment of more than VND 16,200 billion, the airport was designed by experts from Singapore and the United States, featuring a modern yet nature-inspired architectural style that reflects the tropical beauty of Phu Quoc.

Currently, the airport handles 4–7 million passengers annually, but with the strong surge in arrivals – nearly 1 million international visitors in the first seven months of 2025 alone – it is already approaching capacity. An expansion project is now underway, aiming to increase capacity to 20 million passengers per year by 2030.

With its 3,000-meter runway, the airport can accommodate large aircraft such as the Airbus A350, allowing travelers from all over the world to fly directly to the Pearl Island of Phu Quoc with ease.

History & Development

Phu Quoc International Airport has a fascinating story. Originally built as a French military airbase, it was later converted for civil use after 1975. However, its limited scale could not keep pace with the island’s booming tourism industry. In 2008, construction of a brand-new airport began, and by 2012, Phu Quoc International Airport was officially inaugurated—transforming the island into one of Southeast Asia’s most sought-after destinations.

From 2012 to 2020, flight numbers surged dramatically. By 2025, the airport is welcoming an ever-growing volume of international travelers, with new routes being added continuously. In June 2025, the government approved a major expansion project in preparation for APEC 2027, setting the stage for Phu Quoc to become a true international hub. This makes now the perfect time to plan your visit.

Today, the airport is implementing cutting-edge technologies such as facial recognition, aiming to deliver a seamless travel experience on par with world-class airports like Changi in Singapore.
